I’m hoping so, too. But I was also open to the idea of it turning into Final Fantasy XV, or maybe just removing the XIII moniker to become it’s own offshoot series. Still, hoping to hear some news from this soon… But part of me really wants Tetsuya Nomura to get on with Kingdom Hearts 3!

YEA! I remember this guy!! I was like wtf, this guy was totally taking tons of photos of the shoot, and he was there the entire time too. I would forget about it once in a while because I was more focused on listening to you, and everytime I looked up he was still there. It was pretty disrespectful and I wondered if that had bothered you. I’m sorry that had happened, this is a great post and I’m not surprised this might have happened to other photographers.

This show will have bad cosplay all over it. At Matsuri, there were cosplay actors in the competition, who pretended to vomit after getting off the stage. There was a skit that was completely ripped off of former WCS winners Rynn and Krystal. When concern was showed for the “sick” cosplayers (whom we really thought were sick), we were informed they were acting, and when questioned why make shit up instead of filming real cosplayers, the producer told us, “that’s where the money is”. The entire case was completely rude to everyone all weekend. :/

Yaya Han is also set to be the star of this show we were told.

SO, expect to find every cosplayer already disliked more than we were by the outside world lately.

Britney (Or Yoko as I called her) was and will always be one of my best friends. Im very happy that you were able to do this interview about such an amazing artist/cosplayer. She was always helping others with their own cosplays while she worked on her own. We had so many things planned to do with cosplaying when I was able to get up the materials for my own. The only wish I had is that she would have been able to have this interview herself T_T Im sure shes excited that she was able to have this done for her though. Thank you again for doing this!

  Hello! You need to shoot in camera RAW. Once you open up the RAW file in photoshop, that exposure adjustment box will automatically pop up. 🙂 If you shoot in Jpeg, here is a tutorial I found to open up Jpegs in camera RAW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJali3GRiwM
  
  Just remember that Jpeg won’t have as much exposure range as RAW will. Hope I helped!

This is awesome! DC is so much cooler than Baltimore. It might be a more expensive city but it has more to do and better pho and curry shops for those that want to stay before or after the convention. And the transportation is great if you cant get a hotel near by. I’m excited!

Marija, the “save anime” thing is a Yamakan (Yutaka Yamamoto) joke. It began when he said that his previous work, “Fractale”, was going to “save the anime industry” but ended up being one of the biggest failures in recent memory. The fandom kept using the term as a joke and some people sadly use it nowadays for trolling. But it’s not something anybody uses seriously.

Hi, great post!! I was just wondering though, I have the Nikon 3200 and at Anime Expo I had to bump up my ISO to around 1600 to get the shutter to around 60-80. So is it better to take a flash or something like the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 with stabilization. Thanks.

  Hey there, that’s a great question. If you’re using the standard kit lens, the aperture restriction is definitely working against you. The stock Nikon 18-55 is a 3.5-5.6 lens, which indoors will force you use the 1600 ISO to achieve the 1/60 to 1/80th shutter speed you mentioned. The Tamron 24-70mm is a full frame lens, and will be much heavier and larger for not that much improvement. You’ll be gaining 2/3 to 2 stops with the new lens. This means instead of ISO 1600 you’ll be around ISO 800 – 1000.
  
  For the 3200, you might want to consider the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 , which is just over 1 stop faster than the Tamron, and it’s a little smaller and lighter, and more importantly $400 cheaper. With the Sigma, you’ll be shooting at ISO 400 – 500 instead.
  
  If cost is a concern, a flash will be the cheapest option, but make sure you practice with it, or else you’ll end up with paparazzi-esque pictures. For a flash, I would suggest Yongnuo YN-568EX TTL Flash for Nikon, it’s a solid bang for the buck and would serve you well.
  
  All in all, if cost is no concern, I would suggest the Sigma lens. Once you’ve mastered using the lens, then pick up a flash. A nice lens is more useful all around. 🙂

Ehhh, I don’t think I quite agree with you on this issue.

One thing I would like to bring up is when you said, “Should you give previous felons for small things a chance? Sure. But previous sex offenders? It’s just not a good idea.”

That statement right there says a few things to me, but let’s look at context.

1. A felon is someone who has been charged with serious crimes such as murder or arsonry.

You do realize that it is a thousand times easier to kill someone then it is to rape them, right? Not to mention, even easier to rig a building. I do understand people getting upset over AkiCon hiring someone with a criminal record, but someone charged with murder is a bigger threat and deserves just as much attention as someone who has been charged as a rapist.

2. This was his first time. (meaning before AkiCon)

The man had served 4 years in prison, and he had been working nearly 2 years before he joined aki con. So that’s almost 6 years clean. And, to back this up, he worked there for 2 years without incident.

What do you think about this?

  Hey there! I can see where you are coming from. According to Arizona (where he was arrested) felonies range from “class 1” (murder) to “class 6” (improper disposing of chemical waste). Here is a list of all the classes: http://www.azleg.gov/alisPDFs/council/Felonies.pdf
  
  I should have clarified in my article that what I mean by a felony is something ranging from a class 4 to a class 6. A lot of these charges (such as car theft or burglary) are things that I think can be forgiven for over some time. I definitely did not mean that people should forgive a murderer over time or even hire a convicted murderer. According to Arizona law, a convicted murderer wouldn’t even get a chance to be at Aki Con:
  
  “If you have been charged with first degree in the state of Arizona, the stakes could not possibly be any higher, and you need a Phoenix criminal defense lawyer with the experience to effectively defend you. There are three potential punishments that can be imposed for a first degree murder conviction in Arizona: death, life in prison without the possibility of parole, and life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years have been served. Under Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, the number of murder cases for which the State seeks the death penalty has doubled. However, even if the prosecution is not seeking a death penalty in your Phoenix first degree murder case, you could still be facing an extended prison sentence that could prevent you from ever being released from custody.”
  
  While it may not be fair, Aki Con should have conducted a background check, discovered Leslie’s charges and decided it probably would be for the best to not hire him. Better safe than sorry. I have a friend who did a “small” felony when she was 18. That felony is still on her record 7 years later and she has a hard time getting apartments, finding a job, etc. Even though she has been clean and turned her life around, she still gets judged based on her record. Unfortunately for my friend and a lot of other people, that’s how the system works. In Leslie’s case, even though he was “clean” since he was released from jail, he still ended up sexually assaulting someone. This is why people do background checks, because things like this end up happening.

Okay, I’m looking at the page with his record, and it’s pretty difficult to understand all of it. Was he convicted of the crime against the minor? A charge is nowhere near a conviction, and having a charge on your record shouldn’t bar you from any job unless you were found guilty.

Now, if he was found guilty, they probably should’ve found this out; but if it’s only the charge, they didn’t do anything wrong.

  They were aware of his past and they did all they could do to cover it up. People linked his listing on the Facebook page prior to the convention because it concerned them. Aki Con responded by blocking and deleting the posts.

Just a mild correction, but the Hobbit group that won in the costume contest weren’t Rule 63. While the wearers were female, they were just cosplaying the hobbits as is. That’s considered crossplay (i.e. drag), while Rule 63 is turning the characters into female variations.

I was wondering on your thoughts on sclera lenses. I wanted to cosplay as a female version of Ebon from static shock and his eyes are all white so I was thinking about using white sclera lenses. However, I’m not quite sure of the safety. would the same rules that you gave above apply for sclera lenses as well?

  If it’s something you’ve researched and feel comfortable with, go for it! I would definitely do some hard research on who are buying from to make sure they are a good company. A couple things to know with sclera lenses is that you should only wear them 4 hours at a time. Your eyes need oxygen and if you wear them too long it can have bad repercussions. Normal contact lens cases won’t fit the sclera lenses, so you’ll have to buy a bigger case just to fit them. They’re not going to be as comfortable as regular lenses, but they aren’t painful 🙂 Hope I helped a little!!

Hi!

Just wanted to know if this method can be applied to a wig that isn’t preconstructed like the Jasmine? Like a regular lace front wavy wig for example. =D

  Hey! I *tried* putting a regular 30 inch wig into a pony tail and it just didn’t look quite right. Some of the wig cap showed through on the sides and it was hard to get it even in places. However, I have seen someone online be able to put one up so I wouldn’t say it’s not doable haha. I think I just wanted to save myself the stress and went with the pre constructed.

  We usually go to Katsucon, but if they don’t change their photography policy, we will not be going for 2015. We weren’t able to really get any pictures last year because of these rules 🙁
