Syfy to Produce Cosplay Reality Show (Cosworld)

A rumor was floating around a little while ago about how Syfy was possibly going to produce a Cosplay series. There wasn’t much info about this rumor so I passed it off as nothing. Well, a little blurb came out today about Syfy’s soon to be show:

“Cosworld (working title)
Premieres Tuesday, August 27 at 10PM (ET/PT) – Cosworld is a tantalizing six-episode docuseries that lifts the veil on the imaginative world of cosplay competition. The series follows some of the hottest cosplay stars as they make a splash at comic book conventions around the country. The show dives deep into their lives, following their process as they create extravagant and visually arresting costumes each week. These individuals will constantly defy odds and race against the clock to transform themselves into amazing fictional characters that push the boundaries between fantasy and reality, all in hopes of impressing the convention judges to win a cash prize and the chance to become a cosplay legend.”

I just… Can’t. I guess it should be said that I hate reality shows. They’re always scripted and there’s typically no point to them. So now we get to have one on the cosplay world! There will be a “winner” and I assume all the cons will have this winner as a guest of honor. I guess it’s just weird to me. It seems like American Idol or something. “Okay, you win! Now you get to be a celebrity.. Sorta!” I hope it doesn’t paint the cosplay world in a bad light. I just have a bad feeling about all of this.
