This was the very first wig I ever bought. I use it to cosplay Switzerland from Hetalia: Axis Powers, and I hope to use it when I cosplay Armin Arlet from Attack on Titan. The “Blondie’s Moving Chocolate Obsession” from the Five Wits could also be used to cosplay Mello from Death Note, Shiemi from Blue Exorcist, Belphegor from Reborn!, and blond Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle. Overall, I rate this wig at a 4.5 out of 5.
Description: Shoulder-length, blond wig with bangs. The average length of the fibers is 8″ (20 cm).
Material and Usability: Unlike many cosplay wigs made of kanekalon, this wig is made out of a material called hiperlon. Hiperlon is as soft and natural looking as kanekalon, but hiperlon fibers are higher quality and considered “truly heat resistant.”
Calling the fibers “higher quality” means they are less likely to tangle, and it rarely does if I don’t mess with it. It will become disorderly when I’m moving around a lot at cons or when I first take my wig from the bag, but I can easily fix that by running my fingers through it. It’s very convenient not having to carry around a wig brush to fix it constantly.
Because it is heat resistant up to 420 degrees Fahrenheit, you can style the wig with tools that use heat like curling irons and hair straighteners. It is also safe to use hair spray or hair glue to style the wig because it easily washes out. I’ve never styled my wig, but I like having the option to do so in the future if needed.
Fit/Size: This is the category where the “Blondie’s Moving Chocolate Obsession” lost a little love. On the Five Wits website, they consider their wigs as “one size fits most,” mostly due to the adjustable strap at the back of the wig to help it fit on different sized heads.
My problem: I have a large head and thicker than thick shoulder-length hair. I can only last about half an hour before my head starts to ache where I either have to take my wig off for a few minutes (which really sucks when at a con or meet-up). Now the Five Wits says to not use the adjustable strap if you’re like me, which does help my head not hurt as much; however, the wig tends to slide off when I don’t use said strap. Either way, I have to constantly adjust my wig which is a personal inconvenience that shouldn’t affect most people’s decisions to buy the wig.
Price: Considering the length and style of the wig, I believe that $30 is an acceptable price for the wig. It’s a high quality, low maintenance wig that has lasted me a few years without many problems; so I believe I got my money’s worth.
